After my dad passed away, my mother lived alone, facing the challenges of aging in their home. In her later years, she experienced a fall resulting in a hip fracture, which profoundly changed her life. To accommodate her limited mobility, we transformed her living space, moving her bed, dressers, and clothes to the main floor while closing off the upstairs. However, the basement still held the laundry room and her preferred, barrier-free shower. Convincing her to agree to a solution was a labor of love. We installed a stair lift on the basement steps, enabling her to navigate them safely and comfortably in a seated position. She cherished that stairlift, allowing her to remain in her beloved home, age in place, and preserve the cherished moments.
